In response to girlymama's post about browsing through the summer reading stacks at Barnes & Noble...
I remember loving 'Beowulf' and 'Grendel', even though everyone else hated it. I found the story fascinating.
I remember 'Animal Farm' making me feel sick to my stomach.
I remember being one of the only people in my school that for some reason didn't have to read '1984'. I read it last year and LOVED it.
I remember hating 'A Tale of Two Cities', but I don't really remember why.
I remember struggling trying to understand Shakespeare, but once I figured out what was going on, really loving 'A Midsummer's Night Dream' and 'Much Ado About Nothing'.
I remember reading and re-reading 'The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle'. I was in love with her character. My copy is dog-eared and well-worn.
I remember being bored to tears by 'I Had Seen Castles', I don't even recall what it was about.
I remember I was supposed to read 'The Jungle'. I never did.
I totally forgot to update on Ricki's fall from the tub during his recent stay at the kennel.
I took him back to the kennel on Friday right after work and had the vet examine him for injuries. Turns out he may have sprained his hip when he landed from his daring tub escape. The vet gave him some painkillers and said that he should be alright in a week or so and that he'll continue to baby himself for a little bit.
So, he'll be alright. I'm still extremely upset that I wasn't told when I picked him up, but I can't really do anything about it now. I'm still up in the air if we're going back there or not. It's really a bummer since Ricki seems to like it there.
As an attempt to finally begin fulfilling our new year's resolutions, my little sister and I dragged ourselves to the new gym in our neighborhood and signed up for a membership. The place is amazing, huge, new, state-of-the-art. There's a pool. racquetball, unlimited fitness classes, a track, basketball courts, etc etc. It's great!
Even better, every membership comes with personal training sessions. We went to our first one this morning. Amy and I walked in there all ready to get our work out on. Our trainer Kevin walked us through some of our fitness goals, took some measurements, talked about our nutrition. Then it was time to get to work. He started us out with a warm-up on the elliptical for 8 minutes. I was thinking, 'hey, this isn't bad. I can handle this!'
And then came the rest of the workout...
Squats, lunges, weights, just one thing after another. I'm embarassed to say that at one point I had to call it quits and sit down for a minute before I could continue. Apparently I'm not in as great of shape as I originally thought.
So we'll see how Tuesday's training goes, hopefully I can manage to make it through the whole thing without passing out. Who knew 'personal training' also stood for 'personal butt-kicking!'
During our family vacation in Wildwood, NJ we discovered that a warehouse sale for Delias was going on at the convention center! Immediately I was reminded of college where it seemed like every other day a fad clothing store was posting signs directing broke college students towards a ballroom filled with overflowing, unorganized boxes of surplus clothing marked down like crazy. The next week every girl in class was wearing the same shirt. It's actually quite comical.
Regardless, if you have the patience and the time, you can really uncover some great finds at these sales! My sisters and I hit up the Delias one with the intention of shopping for my nieces but all walked out of there with an armful of stuff for ourselves!
I personally came home with a couple scarves (I love the t-shirt w/ a scarf craze), some cardigans for work and even picked up this cute shirt for casual days at work!
I love the ruffles and the pale blue color, very chic. Plus it was only $9!
Check out your local event calendars and watch out for these sales! You could walk home with some treasures!
If you're in the Columbus area this weekend, check out this great fundraiser for the Columbus Dog Connection Rescue! They are hosting their 3rd Annual WooFstock - a day of dogs, music, food and fun!
Ricki was rescued by Colony Rescue, one of the rescues that is going to be attending this event.

As my wordless wednesday clearly demonstrates, Ricki is still well into his recovery from a week of playing at the kennel. Utterly exhausted, he's barely moved except to venture to his bowl for a quick snack.
As someone who grew up having a dog, I expected this. Being a doggy socialite for a week can take a lot out of a pup. They come home hoarse, tired and mad at you even though they probably had a ball playing with the other dogs.
But it's Friday. He's been home for FIVE days now. He shouldn't be like this. He should be back to his normal state - playing in the yard, dragging me around the neighborhood as he sprints at full speed towards every tree, jumping on me in the wee hours of the morning anxious for his breakfast.
I took him for a walk last night and he barely picked up the pace above a walk. Normally I click his leash on and BAM! He's out the door with me in tow, sprinting and trying to keep up with this 12-pounder's mad dash.
So, I was a little concerned after last night's walk that he hasn't regained his energy.
At least, until I got a phone call this morning from the vet at the kennel. NOW I'm REALLY concerned.
Ricki is notorius for hating water. Anything to do with water, his bath, the rain, even an ice cube just causes him to run in the other direction. So I wasn't surprised to hear that during his bath at the kennel he attempted a daring escape by jumping out of the tub. No big deal considering bath time at our house involves two of us holding him down in the tub.
WAIT, BIG DEAL. The tub was approximately FOUR FEET off the ground!
I am fuming. That I wasn't told the second I picked him up. That it's Friday and I'm just finding this out. And that I get to spend my Friday night driving him back to the kennel so the vet can look him over.
I just want to go home and hug my dog, I feel awful now that I know he must be in pain.
I'm always forgetting to participate in the weekly 'you capture' but actually remembered this Thursday! This week's theme is motion, check out this shot I snapped at the Columbus Crew game during a corner kick.
