Seriously, mortified.
I admit it. I read everyone's horror stories about taking their kids to doctor appointments. And I giggle to myself. Cause really, how bad could it really be?
I'm so sorry for giggling at you all.
Really, I am.
Adam and I had to take Ricki to the vet yesterday for his senior exam (yup, he's AARP qualified at 8 years old). Usually I plop him up on the table and he freezes. Stands absolutely still as they examine him and give him his shots. Scared stiff or something. I don't mind though because he's quiet and well-behaved and we get a 10% discount because he's so good.
Well, I put him up on the table yesterday and he didn't freeze. He started pawing me and whining to get down. That should've been a sign. To grab him and run. And attempt the vet visit another day. Cause things just got worse from there.
The vet looked at his teeth. Lots of crying and whining took place.
The vet looked at his eyes. Or tried to. It's hard to see when the dog keeps closing his eyes on purpose.
They had to take a blood sample for his heartworm test. It took THREE vet assistants and SIX tries to get enough blood to run the test. Ricki was freaking out, thrashing and crying. BEFORE THEY EVEN TOUCHED HIM WITH THE NEEDLE. They finally had to take him out of the room because he was worse with Adam and I right there.
Quick bordetella shot to the nose. More whining.
A quick break while we all try to regain our composure. Ricki's down on the floor at this point and tries to make a daring escape through a cracked doorway.
Vet tries to look at Ricki's ears, more whining and head thrashing.
Time for the urine test. The dog who claims he has to go to the bathroom 80 times again (including at 4am) will NOT pee. Seriously. No bush/tree/plant was deemed worthy enough to be marked.
And then he proceeded to bark and whine loudly as we attempted to pay.
Needless to say no 'good behavior discount' was redeemed for this visit. Grumble.
