For those of you who haven't met Miss April - she's a 25 year old, married, graphic design superhero by day, masked blog designer by night. She's one of my favorite bloggers to read, laugh with, laugh some more with and get inspired by.
Which is why I feel obligated to answer her question: 'What in the HECK does your husband fiancé do all day?' along with some other inquires about our significant others.
Well, well. I haven't a clue.
For starters, his name is Adam but sometimes goes by AJ. I tend to call him Adam Joseph in a high, screechy voice because he's pushing my buttons or doing something he's not supposed to be doing. He's 5'11", brown hair, brown eyes, soccer player build. He lived and breathed soccer until a knee injury brought that to an end. He has one older sister, who's pretty awesome, along with parents that are some of my favorite people to hang out with.
We met in 2004 at THE Ohio State University while I was helping his roommate move in. Adam promptly locked me in his dorm room and I spent the next five weeks attempting to avoid the cute, psycho across the hall. And then as all college romances start, alcohol was drank, beer pong was played and kisses were shared.
I'm not entirely sure what Adam wanted to be when he was growing up, but the first major of college was engineering. I'd love to elaborate on that but to be honest I zoned out anytime he talked about his classes. He eventually realized that he already knows everything about engineering so he went on to a business major in an attempt to be a bit more rounded. He was the first person to convince me to skip class. Apparently there was a very funny 'Friends' episode on that day that I just couldn't miss. After meeting him I lightened up about school, still making good grades but not killing myself over an 'A' vs a 'B'.
He taught me a lot during college. I became a star Halo player...and by 'star' I mean I could run around for more than 30 seconds before I got killed. I learned the rules and strategies behind epic sports such as 'fumblerooskie', 'hallway soccer' and 'arena cornhole'. I learned that 'gorilla handing' meant grabbing the tube of toothpaste in the middle instead of squeezing from the top of the tube. That a fan was stronger than the man jumping into it. And I saw more random things on the internet than I ever thought possible (thanks to his roommates).
I learned just how level-headed he is when watching him break up house disputes. That he really can cook. That he's an absolutely neat freak. And that he likes the smell of citrus candles.
He's funny, quirky, adventurous and genuinely a 'nice guy'.
I got to see the sensitive side of him the day we got Ricki. I'll never forget watching Adam sitting in the grass petting this scraggly little dog. The joy on his face when we finally got the call saying we were able to adopt him! The smile as he raced around the pet store buying nothing but the best for our new family member.
He loves that dog more than life itself.
College ended and we went onto our 'adult' lives although to be truthful, we were still very much kids. Adam works as a engineer/IT professional/salesman extrordinaire for a welding manufacturer. I still tune out when he's explaining his projects to me. He loves his job mainly because he loves talking to people.
If he wasn't at work all day, he'd be at home, taking over the Halo world one map at a time. Or rebeating MarioKart wii. Or reading the news on the internet because a newspaper just isn't fun. Or napping with the dog, he loves that dog.
He loves building bonfires and playing volleyball. I like bonfires, but I'll pass on the volleyball. His family has a boat on Lake Erie and it's his favorite weekend activity. He spends uber amounts of time helping his dad take care of the boat. That's another thing about him, he REALLY takes care of things. As in, his iPod is in mint-condition while mine may have been dropped one or two or six times.
I taught him to snowboard a few years ago and now he's an expert. Except for getting off the lift, none of us can do that while looking graceful.
He's super handy. We have a tool 'area' in our basement. I'm not allowed to touch. I put up curtains one time and got reprimanded for a whole week. Can I help it if the laser level is super cool to play with?
He doesn't change diapers.
He can cook 100 times better than I can. I don't even know how he does it! Just throws stuff together, no recipe, and nothing is ever made the same way twice. I'm also not allowed to touch the grill. That's okay though, I don't even know how to turn it on.
He's absolutely hilarious - always has some sort of sarcastic remark. In 'Friends' he'd be Chandler. He's best buddies with my older brother which makes for an interesting time when they're together. I've gotten very skilled at dodging nerf darts and water balloons.
Regardless, I'm not really sure what I'd do without him.
He's pretty awesome. Good thing too. Cause I've only got four more months before I have to agree to put up with him for the rest of my life.
It's okay though. He's my favorite.
