1. Adam woke up Friday morning unable to walk due to a serious infection in his foot. One hospital visit, lots of antibiotics and a whole weekend spent playing video games later, he can walk and the pain is not quite as intense. Poor kid. And poor me. I spent the past three days waiting on him hand and foot since walking wasn't in the cards for him this weekend.
2. I woke up yesterday humming the theme to Call of Duty 4. I guess the constant video game playing of this weekend has finally gotten to my brain.
3. Read 'The Time Traveler's Wife' and was blown away. As in couldn't put it down and read late into Saturday night just to finish it. And couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards, even though I had already seen the movie and 'knew' what was going to happen. It still kept me on the edge of my seat. Be forewarned that it's 500+ pages, but well worth it!
4. I let Adam pick out my nail polish this weekend too since he was a tad on the bored side. My nails are now a very bright teal...Summer Splash from Maybelline's Salsa Sun nail collection. I can't seem to find the color online anywhere...so here's a quick BB photo.
Told ya it was blue. And yes, still sporting this at work today. No quite sure how 'business casual' this color is, but we'll go with it.

6. How was your weekend? I will live vicariously through your adventures since mine consisted of blowing up little 3-D people on the tv screen.
Most people who know me know that I am a Yankee Candle fanatic. Mainly because I can't stand it when our house smells musty, closed up or just plain stinky. Especially in the bathrooms. We've tried all those gel-scented options, burned candles, and sprayed very-perfuming air disinfectants, but none of them could get rid of that musty smell that comes from a room with water.
Luckily, I was given the opportunity to try out some of Febreze's new scented solutions this past month. I will say that I am not a fan of the Febreze fabric freshener, the smell just doesn't sit quite right with me. So I was skeptical about how I was going to like the Flameless Luminary and No-Spill Wood Diffusers.
Think Bath & Body Works scents meet Yankee Candle smell strength. Wonderful.
We stuck the Cherry Blossom Whimsy Flameless Luminary in the front bathroom that is most frequented by our guests. Not only does it have a small footprint, but I love it's modern and simple looking; it didn't clash with our decor. And it emits a soft flickering light without the fire hazards of a candle! The scent was subtle, not overwhelming, and as Adam puts it, not overly 'girly' smelling. And once you have the base, changing scents is as simple as changing the shade! I want to try green tea citrus next.
The No-Spill Wood Diffuser was placed in our master bathroom next to the sink. It looks a bit more 'manly', just a simple clear vase with a wood rod and block. Our trial was with the honeysuckle orchid scent which was sweet but woodsy. I was thinking the other day that I wouldn't be able to provide a adequate review on the 'no spill' factor until my natural clumsiness solved that issue. I knocked over the diffuser while cleaning the bathroom and can honestly say that no liquid escaped! Whew.
In conclusion, we both liked and will keep using the products, but I liked the Flamless Luminary more and Adam voted for the No-Spill Diffuser. I guess it's a good thing we have two bathrooms!

I'm back on my alone kick. I get like that every once in a while. Just needing to disassociate myself with the human race. Spend time with me. The dog. Reading. Playing. Thinking. Just being.
But really thinking. About my life as of late.
You spend your whole childhood with manners beaten into your head. Sit up straight. Speak in a quiet tone. Don't talk back. Graciousness. Kindness. Integrity. These rules were gold and you were golden.
But when does it end? When do you cross that line and become the adult. Your manners disappear. Your energy becomes focused around judging the actions of others. The happiness of life and living becomes shadowed by your insistent need to be right, to be heard, to judge.
I can see this happening in myself. I judge others who judge me. I judge them for thinking that I'm not living my life the way I should. I judge them for how they talk to me. I judge them simply because I know no other reaction.
But I don't judge them for the choices they make. Other than their choice to judge me.
Everyone has a choice. You can choose to be happy, or you can choose to judge and live a life of discontent. I could feel myself slipping the past few weeks. Into a pattern of judging. Into a life of being unhappy with how people were looking at me. But personal reflection has only secured in myself the fact that I'm doing the best I can. I'm spending time with those I love. I'm discovering new adventures. I'm learning more than I ever have.
I choose happiness over a life of feeling like I will never meet the expectations of others.
So go ahead and judge the choices I make. How I spend my time. What I'm doing with my life. I'm only worried about you. The more you judge, the less content you'll be.

Okay, the wedding is over, it's time to get back to our normal lives. For me that means long walks with the dog, reading books cover-to-cover in one night, and of course, messing around with my camera. I was so excited that this week's assignment was black & white, but unfortunately, most of the photos I took outdoors just popped with colors! I couldn't bear to turn them grayscale for this assignment.
My nephew pulled through for me though. I snapped this at my father-in-law's birthday dinner on Sunday. Tommy was sound asleep in his daddy's arms, completely exhausted from an afternoon of smiling, playing, eating blueberries and generally being the sweet little boy that he is.
